Its not a stunner in any way, but it is handsome, its seemingly airy inside (even without the sunroof open), and it has some of the most comfortable and supportive seats in the business. Need function? Start flipping and folding seats, and youll find a way to carry just about anything you need to hauland if it wont fit inside, a couple of crossbars would let you carry it on the roof in typical Volvo style.
I found the I6 and the six-speed automatic a good match for this carstrong enough to do the job but not overpowering. Steering and suspension were likewise plenty responsive and capable without overdoing it. This is one of those cars that drives lighter than its curb weight indicates.
Whether you call it a sport/utility vehicle or a station wagon, this car hits a near-perfect sweet spot.
ART DIRECTOR KEN ROSS: The XC70s price is cheaper than I thought it would be. The interior is clean and well done, and the center console is one of the best Ive seen in a while. Seats are comfortable and have more than enough room for the driver and copilot up front, but the back seat needs a few more inches for the taller kids in the family. The driving experience is engaging, and the I6 does a good job with power.
